In Institutional Banking, the loan balance grew by 17% year-on-year. In the first quarter, the bank extended PLN 2.3 billion in new and increased financing to its corporate clients — three times more than in the same period a year earlier and twice as much on a quarterly basis.

"We had a strong start to the year. In line with our expectations, we are seeing growth in lending, particularly in the Corporate Banking and Enterprise Banking segments. This is the result of increased investment appetite among companies and our expertise, through which we are acquiring new clients and supporting existing ones in executing strategic transactions. A prime example is the flagship deal of this quarter, signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support the diversification of funding sources for projects in Poland. In the first months of the year, we worked intensively with Enterprise Banking clients, as evidenced by the financing provided to Elemental Holding and the closing of Wirtualna Polska Holding's acquisition of the largest travel platform in this part of Europe. During the recent weeks of heightened uncertainty and volatility, we have been especially close to our clients, sharing insights from global markets to help them navigate the current global situation," said Elżbieta Czetwertyńska, President of the Management Board of Citi Handlowy.

Assets in the Corporate Banking segment grew by 41% year-on-year in the first quarter, while assets in Enterprise Banking grew by 21% year-on-year. Together with a group of banks, Citi Handlowy signed a syndicated loan agreement with InPost SA to refinance existing debt and increase the available credit facility to PLN 4.2 billion for the next 5 years. The bank also signed an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, under which Citi committed to supporting the EBRD in diversifying its PLN-denominated funding sources for projects in Poland. These include the green transformation of the energy sector, decarbonisation of the economy, and the promotion of economic development. The bank was also active in the primary debt securities market, organising two bond issuances for the European Investment Bank (EIB) totalling PLN 1 billion.

At the beginning of the year, the bank successfully completed the public offering of Diagnostyka S.A., valued at PLN 1.7 billion. It also supported the expansion of Elemental Holding through a syndicated loan of EUR 252 million, and the issuance of a new series of shares by CCC, where Citi Handlowy's Brokerage House acted as joint bookrunner. In the first quarter of 2025, the acquisition of shares in Invia Group SE by Wirtualna Polska Holding was also successfully closed — a transaction supported by the bank through an investment loan.

The bank supports its clients in financial markets by sharing its global expertise and access to the Citi network. As a result, the volume of foreign exchange transactions with institutional clients in Q1 grew by 13% year-on-year.

In Retail Banking, the first quarter was another period of growing numbers of affluent clients (+6% year-on-year) for Citi Handlowy. Deposit balances grew by 4% year-on-year, while funds in investment products were 16% higher year-on-year. The mortgage product balance increased by 3% year-on-year. The value of foreign exchange transactions in the first quarter grew by 14% year-on-year. The number of foreign currency accounts grew by 2% year-on-year, and the number of clients using the multi-currency card feature increased by 22% year-on-year.

The bank maintained a strong position in the credit card market in terms of the value of credit extended on credit cards (with a market share of 15.7% based on data as at the end of March 2025). The sales volume of cash loans and credit card loans in the first quarter grew by 6% year-on-year. The balance of cash loans and credit card loans increased by 3% year-on-year.

"I am pleased that in the first quarter of 2025 the bank maintained its trend of growing client revenues, up 9% year-on-year in the strategic Institutional Banking segment. The main growth drivers were lending and brokerage activities. The bank's assets reached a record level, driven by higher client receivables of 12% year-on-year, while maintaining a strong capital position — TLAC TREA at 26.5%. At the same time, the bank maintained control over operating costs, which distinguishes it favourably in this respect against the banking sector," said Patrycjusz Wójcik, Vice President of the Management Board for Finance.
